Traditional Foot Reflexology

Traditional Reflexology is a pressure massage on reflex points which represent the whole body, that have been mapped out on the feet. (find out more by clicking here about Reflexology ). Traditional Reflexology is the most popular treatment as it may help with a multitude of ailments or just used for pure relaxation, de-stressing and wellbeing.

There is no such thing as a standard reflexology treatment. Each session is tailored to the individuals needs at that specific moment in time, therefore, no two clients, or even two treatments for the same client, will be identical. An individual treatment schedule will be discussed at the first session, depending on your body’s needs. It is advisable to have regular treatments even after your body is back in tune, in order to maintain good health and well-being.

If time allows Gills’ Traditional Reflexology sessions are concluded with a hormone balancing & short lymphatic drainage routine (see below).

Preconception and Pregnancy - Maternity Reflexology

After Gill encountered the wonderful effects of reflexology first hand during her own pregnancy, she has undertaken extensive training in order to be experienced in all aspects of Maternity Reflexology, including further training specifically in Fertility Reflexology / Reproflexology.

Preparing for Pregnancy / Preconception -

Preconception Reflexology may aid a couple maximise their potential for successful conception by improving fertility, as well as maintaining an overall healthy body including reducing the effects of stress, which is known to have a huge impact on fertility. This treatment is ideally for those clients at the beginning of their journey to become pregnant and therefore do not know of any issues either party may have.

Fertility Reflexology / Reproflexology -

Fertility Reflexology, or Reproflexology as it is also called, was specifically developed to aid clients with fertility issues, to help both parties involved in the journey improve their fertility, and therefore their chances of starting a family, by both natural and medically assisted conception. It may also be effective in minimising the impact of many gynaecological and menstrual problems, whether you are trying to conceive or not, such as endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids and ovarian cysts, and also including perimenopause and the menopause.

Fertility Reflexology / Reproflexology is aimed at those clients who have been actively trying for a baby for a period of time with no success. There will be an in-depth questionnaire / consultation, hopefully involving both partners, where the details of their journey so far will be discussed. This will including looking at any medical tests they may have had, such as blood tests, semen analysis, laparoscopy results etc., any medically assisted pregnancy attempts, whether successful or not, and the way forward planned. There will be protocols to follow and self-help to do at home.

Reproflexology is a unique treatment that may help couples realise their dreams of having a baby. If all suggestions, protocols and self-help are undertaken then Fertility Reflexology, or Reproflexology, has shown to have a very high success rate in improving quality and quantity of sperm, as well as improving the conditions within the female to produce good quality eggs and the environment for a fertilised egg to implant. It can also help identify the ovulation date. Obviously, we cannot guarantee anything.

Fertility Reflexology / Reproflexology can also be used in conjunction with medically assisted conception, such as IUI, IVF and ICSI. Not only can it prepare the body before the medical procedure ( ideally for 3 months prior to medical intervention ), to help maximize a protentional positive outcome, but also helps support all aspects of that medically assisted journey by encouraging the body to respond to the best of its ability to the drug regimen.

Reflexology greatly supports couples on their fertility journey. It does not treat their medical diagnosis, therefore does not treat fertility, nor does it treat conception problems. It treats the people with those problems. However, reflexology helps relaxation, improves mood, aids sleep, helps relieve tension & improves a sense of well being which can in turn help improve a couples' chance of conceiving both naturally & with medically assisted fertility treatments.

Foot pain during pregnancy

Pregnancy -

As a pregnant lady, reflexology may help with morning sickness, mood swings, water retention, and many of the associated aches and pains and other ailments that go hand in hand with pregnancy. It is a very relaxing pressure massage of the feet, which may not only help with the changing conditions of your body throughout your pregnancy, but may also prepare it for the birth itself.

Reflexology is the ideal opportunity for pregnant women to enjoy feeling pampered & relaxed.

Post Labour/4th Trimester -

Reflexology is just as important post labour, also known as the 4th trimester. It can take three months for your body to recover after the trauma of birth. Once the baby has arrived, whatever your birthing experience, reflexology may help your body heal, rebalance your hormones and may also support new mums with their mental health, including postnatal depression, therefore enabling them to optimize their care for their new born. It is advisable to continue with reflexology as soon as possible after the birth of your child as this may help rebalance your body & mind to a non-pregnancy state quicker. However, it is never too late to resume your treatments.

Indian Head Massage

The Indian head massage is a very relaxing back, shoulder, neck, scalp and face massage. It complements reflexology extremely well as a top to toe treatment. It may be beneficial for the relief of neck and shoulder stiffness, eyestrain and headaches. It is also great just for relaxation.

Oils are not used in this treatment.

Hot Stone Reflexology

The ancient healing art of Hot Stone reflexology has now been introduced as an alternative to traditional foot reflexology.

The Hot Stones are used to heat and work the reflex points on the feet and legs. It is a thoroughly relaxing, soothing, comforting and destressing tranquil treatment, which allows the heat from the stones to penetrate deep into the tissues relieving all the tensions held there.

It has been scientifically proven that heat is very effective at releasing muscle tension and pain, making recovery and repair more efficient, therefore using Hot Stones on the corresponding reflex points on the feet enables the reflexologist to work further and deeper into the muscle fibres.

Cold stones can be introduced alongside the Hot Stones. These extremes in temperature can improve circulation and boost the immune system, however some clients may prefer to remain warm & cosy!

Mindful Reflexology

Mindful Reflexology is for clients who live with stress, anxiety and/or depression, who wish to improve their health and wellbeing, believe they can recover, and who are willing to participate in self-help activities that will greatly improve the likelihood of a successful outcome.

Mindful Reflexology is also suitable/helpful for children and young adults who are dealing with the stresses of adolescence, relationships, school & college.

Mindful Reflexology uses adapted reflexology techniques, and breathing, with the aim to achieve a relaxed, non-judgemental awareness of thoughts, feelings and sensations during the session, which is hoped, will be maintained between treatments through the use of the suggested self-help activities.

Spinal Reflexology

Spinal Reflexology is still a treatment on the feet, & the whole body still gets worked on, but it has more emphasis on the spine & the associated muscle & nerve areas. Its aim is to relax the muscles & nerves around the spine & legs, hopefully reducing pain, stiffness or inflammation produced in all areas of neck, shoulders, back, hips & knees, by helping to release the tension held in all these areas & may even realign areas which may have moved due to an impact injury or years of stress tension.

Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)

Reflexology Lymph Drainage or RLD is a very different form of reflexology as it only treats the lymphatic system mapped out on the feet. It was primarily pioneered by Sally Kay as a Reflexology alternative to Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) to help ladies who were suffering with secondary lymphedema of the arm as a result of breast cancer surgery. The main difference, other than it's all done on the feet, is that MLD pushes the lymph away from an area where as RLD drains it out. Not only has it proved very successful in alleviating the pain & swelling associated with this through clinical trials, it has also been shown to help with many other auto-immune disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, asthma, allergies/hayfever, migraines, chronic fatigue syndrome, ME, MS, IBS and many more.

RLD would usually be used on its own as a whole relaxing session, however certain aspects of it may occasionally be used during a normal reflexology session to enhance that treatment.

Facial Reflexology

Facial Reflexology is a wonderful, deeply relaxing treatment. Like Traditional Foot Reflexology, parts of the body have been mapped out as reflex points except for this treatment it covers the face. It was developed, & Gill was taught, by Ziggy Bergman who is a highly qualified, internationally well respected therapist to celebrities and models. She is also an award winner who often features in magazine & newspaper articles.

There are two Facial Reflexology treatments available. The first is half an hour treatment that can be combined with Traditional Foot Reflexology. It focuses on relaxation, de-stressing the body, calming the mind and relieving tension and to a lesser degree some of the benefits of the Advanced Facial Reflexology. The other, Advanced Facial Reflexology, is an hour long treatment that is an alternative to Foot Reflexology. Like Traditional Foot Reflexology, the organs and systems of the whole body have been mapped out. And just like foot reflexology it aims to help improve the health and wellbeing of clients by balancing the whole body and helping it to heal. Over a series of sessions it has many health benefits which may include improving certain conditions like insomnia, headaches and migraines, bruxism, many other stress related ailments, sinusitis, and facial weaknesses such as Bell’s Palsy. Additionally, Facial Reflexology has the unique benefit of helping clients look better and younger because it rejuvenates the skin and complexion of the face by improving blood flow, stimulating nerve endings and releasing toxins therefore reducing lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone and leave the face with a healthy glow allowing the client to feel good and look their best.

Facial Reflexology has a quicker response than Foot Reflexology. This is thought to be because the reflex points are closer to the brain, which is the source of the central nervous system

Gill uses the ground breaking, award winning, crystal-infused blend of essential oils, Zone Face Lift Elixir, for this treatment. This oil not only rejuvenates the skin but, along with the Facial Reflexology, can have the effect of a holistic ‘mini facelift’ after just a few sessions

Hormone Balancing Reflexology

Hormone Balancing is included in all Traditional reflexology sessions if time allows, as Gill genuinely believes everyone can benefit. Hormone imbalances can be caused by anything from a bad diet or life style, to just day to day stresses. The hormone balance technique may help maintain, improve or rebalance the hormone levels to the requirements of your body.

Lymphatic Drainage

A short Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage Routine is included in all Traditional reflexology sessions if time allows. It is a short sequence which may help with water retention, the removal of toxins & supporting the immune system.

Vertical Reflexology (VRT)

Vertical  Reflexology was originally developed by Lynne Booth in a retirement home to help the residence with their mobility and pain issues. After great success, she then worked with elite sports men, as part of their physio team, to help with rehabilitation after injury. Vertical reflexology has a profound effect on clients of any age and fitness, sometimes with immediate results.

Vertical Reflexology is a technique used on clients while they are weight bearing on their hands or feet. There are several ways VRT can be used. One is linking the hand & feet reflex points at the same time, while standing, sometimes giving a more powerful & instant response for pain and stiffness in joints. Another is to hold a combination of reflex points while moving the client in a specific way, this can help with mobility issues.

VRT can be used as a treatment on its own, but is usually only practised this way if time is limited or the client is unable to recline so the underside of their feet cannot be exposed. If this is your preferred treatment please specify when booking. VRT is usually only used during a normal reflexology session as an additional aid for specific & more troublesome ailments such as pain or stiffness in joints, or as a self help technique to use between treatments.

Hand Reflexology

A whole reflexology treatment can be conducted on the hands upon request. It is usually used either when reflex points on the feet are inaccessible or as a self-help treatment shown to clients, to be used at home between sessions.

Ear Reflexology

Ear reflexology is a pressure massage of the ear, with both ears treated simultaneously. Like foot reflexology, the whole body is mapped out onto the ear. A full routine is completed in 5-10 minutes.

After the massage sequence is complete, individual reflex points can be stimulated using a metal probe. A Chinese seed is then stuck to the exact spot so you can self-stimulate for a few days. Please note this additional stimulation is very painful but can have great & instant effect on muscular-skeletal pain and stiffness.

Ear reflexology is ideal when time is limited as the whole body still becomes relaxed and receives a total overhaul. It is also beneficial to those clients who do not wish their feet to be touched. Ear reflexology is ideally suited as an add on to an Indian Head Massage.
